Biblioteca Centrale, Politecnico di Torino C.so Duca degli Abruzzi, 24

Speaker: Dr. Ahmed Ellaithy, Director-General of the Mallawi Museum El Minia, Egypt
The speaker is a member of the joint Egyptian-Italian project “The Complete Geophysical Survey of the Valley of the Kings”, coordinated from the Italian side by Politecnico di Torino.

The Museum, about 40km south of El Minia (middle Egypt), was established in 1963 to house nds from local excavations, most notably ‑Tuna el-Gebel,‑Hermopolis,‑ Antinopoli‑e‑Amarna,‑and held an important collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It
was looted and badly damaged in August 2013. Fortunately, most (more than 90%) of the looted artifacts have been recovered. The Museum was reopened in September 2016. The cost of museum renovation (about 1 M €) was covered in part by the Italian Government‑through the Cooperation Development (Debt Swap) Program of the Italian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and International Cooperation.
