The library system, as a service centre for the Politecnico's libraries, organises all the books and documents catalogues and the electronic bibliographic resources. The documents are structured and held by the Central libraries, the area libraries and the special collections archives. The area libraries subdivision reflects the different cultural and scientific fields existing in the Politecnico. This library network includes updated books in scientific and technical fields, relevant historical collections and an extensive archive of in print serials and e-journals. Moreover, the libraries users are provided with access to the main databases in their fields of interest and to a wide e-books collection. The library system supplies its libraries with promptly available information, both in print and e-format. The different kind of users within the University are provided with adequate instruments for their didactic and research aims.
The library system whit IT area team, organises and manages, by using Aleph 500, a relevant software in the automation of libraries, the unified catalog of the Politecnico libraries, which currently stores more than 300,000 bibliographic records and is available through a web interface.
