On November, 27th 2009, a meeting about OpenAccessday@polito: understanding, comparing, planning future, was organized by the Library System: it was divided into two moments, the first devoted to learning and the second to discussion and confrontation. In the morning an Introductory course in copyright for researchers (with elements of Open Access) was organized by NEXA Center for Internet and Society, while afternoon was dedicated to the meeting.
Initially 260 persons registered for the conference whereas 21 other ones arrived to the meeting without registration. The total number of participants was 182. The majority of the people belonged to the Piemonte Universities, but there were also research institutions professionals and employees and other Italian universities representatives (Pavia, Palermo, Cagliari, Roma, Bolzano, Milano, Modena, Foggia, Trento, Venezia). Other participants came from foreign countries, in particular from Holland.
After the introduction of Library System's President, prof. Juan Carlos De Martin, the hub of the afternoon was the Keynote Speech about the future of institutional repositories of prof. Jean-Claude Guédon (University of Montreal), one of the most renowned theoreticians of the worldwide Open Access movement. Afterward, important guests, grouped in two panels, discussed the following topics: Funding agencies and Open Access and Open Access and local production system in Piemonte.
